I have a similar question about side floats. I use the following code to put an arrow in the margin, but the arrow appears below the line where the float is defined:
some text <fo:float float="start" start-indent="-5mm"><fo:block font-family="Symbol">←</fo:block></fo:float>more text
some text more text
<- [next line]
While of course I need:
<- some text more text
My reading of the specs is that the top of the float should be aligned with the top of the line area where it stands, not of the next line area. What do you think?
Alternatively, how can I move the float or its content? Something like this doesn't seem to work:
<fo:float float="start" start-indent="-5mm">
<fo:block position="relative" top="-1em">X</fo:block>
