Thanks, that did it. I however do not understand the reason for
inheriting the start-indent value in FO. Can you explain why that is so?

Hello Arjan,
You have two options to achieve desired effect:
1. Explicitly specify zero indents (start-indent="0pt" and
end-indent="0pt") on fo:table-body element.
2. Set XEP2_COMPATIBLE_MODE to 'true' to enforce RenderX proprietary
interpretation of inheritance. However we consider this option as
deprecated and discourage its use.
