That's because TeX hyphenation tables for Polish use custom
sequences for polish diacritics instead of the semi-standard
way TeX normally accepts, for example,
/z instead of \.z,
/l instead of \l ,
and
/a instead of \ka
I've modified the table accordingly and sent to you off-list
so that you can check it (i did myself on Polish texts, the
hyphenation looks reasonable, but my knowledge of Polish
is very limited).
