    Hi,

We are also evaluating xep (we're using V3.6.3) and are
experiencing a similar problem with Japanese PDFs. At first
glance I was pleased to see your response about a bug that
will be fixed in the next maintenance release. However, we
are using _embedded_ fonts. The Japanese PDF we are
creating as our "proof of xep viability" document is not
searchable with Acrobat 4 or 5. We do not see the problem
with Acrobat 6. We get the same error messages as reported
by David. This is a critical problem for us, as we need to make
a go/no go decision on xep very soon. Are you certain that
the bug fix will deal only with non-embedded fonts?

To summarize, our problem is that search in Acrobat 4 and 5
always fails, with the error message:

"Attempt to release an unlocked object"

After that, the next error message sometimes appears when OK
is selected from the error dialog:

"The encoding (CMap) specified by a font is corrupted."

    Thanks.
