RenderX,
For over two decades, I have been editing several international
standards in XML, using XSLT stylesheets to transform that XML into XSL
FO, and using RenderX XEP to render that XSL FO into PDF.
At some point in the last couple of years (and I apologize that I cannot
narrow down the timeframe any more precisely), I noticed that a few
footnotes occasionally get rendered with the footnote number indented
such that it overlaps the footnote text.
Here are two examples taken from the same document (screen shots of PDF):
The first (correct) example:
The second (incorrect) example:
The XSL FO of the first example is:
<fo:footnote><fo:inline
font-size="smaller"baseline-shift="super">3</fo:inline><fo:footnote-body><fo:list-block
provisional-distance-between-starts="16pt"provisional-label-separation="5pt"><fo:list-item><fo:list-item-label
end-indent="label-end()"><fo:block
font-size="smaller">3</fo:block></fo:list-item-label><fo:list-item-body
start-indent="body-start()"><fo:block font-size="smaller">According to
Wikipedia, a tuple is
a “finite ordered list (sequence) of
elements”.</fo:block></fo:list-item-body></fo:list-item></fo:list-block></fo:footnote-body></fo:footnote>
The XSL FO of the second example is:
<fo:footnote><fo:inline
font-size="smaller"baseline-shift="super">4</fo:inline><fo:footnote-body><fo:list-block
provisional-distance-between-starts="16pt"provisional-label-separation="5pt"><fo:list-item><fo:list-item-label
end-indent="label-end()"><fo:block
font-size="smaller">4</fo:block></fo:list-item-label><fo:list-item-body
start-indent="body-start()"><fo:block font-size="smaller">In SQL,
columns can be defined
to prohibit null values, if
desired.</fo:block></fo:list-item-body></fo:list-item></fo:list-block></fo:footnote-body></fo:footnote>
I believe that you will see that the two XSL FO examples are essentially
identical.
Any guidance you can provide to help me resolve this discrepancy in
formatting would be greatly appreciated.
I think that I'm currently using XEP version 4.28.759
Many thanks!
Jim
