I always thought that text-align property was a very wrong name for
table-and-caption's alignment attribute. Why "text-"? It is not text
which is aligned, but a block-area. Why not for any block-container,
just for table-and-caption?

If you just want a table to be centered in
inline-progression-dimension, put it inside the middle cell of another
(1 3) table. This works for any block-level entity too.
